Since moving to London 5 years ago (time flies when you are having fun) I have enjoyed some very nice 4th of July celebrations but this year was by far the best.

This is due to several factors the first one being the warm and sunny weather we are having in London.

The second one is getting to hear the Texas Girls Choir perform at the local Highbury Mews Day Centre. The girls flew from Texas on the 3rd of July and as soon as they landed in London on the 4th of July they went straight to the Highbury Mews Day Centre and gave an amazing performance.

I am not sure what it was about seeing them perform but I felt very homesick more so than I ever have in the five years that I have lived here. Sufficit to say their beautiful singing brought a tear to my eye and a big smile to my face.

They sang some Texas favourites including Yellow rose of Texas and Deep in the heart of Texas. As an homage to England (I presume) they sang Adele’s Rolling in the deep. Their performance included lots of Broadway show tunes, some disco with Gloria Gaynor’s I will survive and they ended their performance with Swing low, sweet chariot.

I absolutely loved their outfits of a red western top, white denim skirt, white cowboy boots all topped off with cowboy hat.

Thank you to  the Texas Girls Choir for an amazing performance and thank you to Nigel for letting me attend especially since I am not a pensioner (not yet) and for everyone there who made me feel so welcome.

The last and maybe one of the most important thing about this 4th of July is that for the last five years that we have been living in London my wonderful amazing honey ‘James’ never fails to give me a beautiful red white and blue bouquet of flowers. This year was no exception.

As an expat living in England 4th of July has a new and different meeting. I mean because if the first colonies had not gained their independence we could all be British. Nah! 😉

So what are your are your favourite things to do on 4th of July? Do you have any traditions?
