In an age where we are constantly connect to the Internet is it possible to escape being constantly connected and do we really want to? On my recent vacation to the south of France that is exactly what we did.
We travelled to Mazamet via Carcassonne and stayed in the holiday home, Alexis, of my partner’s family in that Black Mountains.
We spent the days taking walks in the woods, picking wild berries, shopping in the local village (Angles) taking long lunches on the porch and lounging in the sunshine. While the evenings were filled with wonderful dinners, copious amounts of red wine, night markets in the village (la Souque), listening to stories of family history and gazing at the stars in the night sky as we listened to nature’s music.
Days that would normally be filled with emails, text, wassup, twitter and Facebook were but a distant memory.
Of course, it would be unfair to say that there were times when I didn’t want to Instagram or tweet what we were enjoying at every moment because I did but since I didn’t have access of the Internet or wifi I couldn’t even if I had wanted to. And I am glad I didn’t have any service while on vacation because it’s allowed me / us to enjoy each and every moment, smell, every breath of wind on our faces and enjoy the wonder of nature and simple pleasures of life.
